My Flock

Mr. Webster defines a team as “marked by devotion to teamwork rather than individual achievement”.  I have been so blessed to have been a member or sooooo many teams growing up!  Starting with softball, volleyball, and basketball when I was little, then I was a cheerleader in high school.  In college I joined a social sorority.  Looking back, all of these teams prepared me for the most amazing team of all!  Tonight I want show off the BEST TEAM in the world!  This is the preschool team at Hoover City Schools!
What do WE do?  I am not about to begin to try and list everything!!!  Here is a very brief summary.  We work with 3 and 4 year olds with special needs and peer models.  This is OUR passion!  Our days consist of good mornings, songs, potty time, arts and crafts, reading books, shapes and colors, more potty time, snack, high fives, counting, lunch, a couple of diaper changes, playground, even more potty time, stickers, ABC’s, thumbs up, backpacks, happy faces and big hugs.  The one thing you will never hear from our group is “Not my job.”  We are an all hands on deck kinda crew!
Who are WE?  In the movie Mighty Ducks, Coach Bombay says this to his team, “Have you guys ever seen a flock of ducks flying in perfect formation? It's beautiful. Pretty awesome the way they all stick together. Ducks never say die. Ever seen a duck fight? No way. Why? Because the other animals are afraid. They know that if they mess with one duck, they gotta deal with the whole flock. I'm proud to be a Duck, and I'd be proud to fly with any one of you.”  Let’s begin with we LOVE to laugh…I’m pretty sure that any of my crew reading this right now are in the floor with tears streaming down their face!  My team knows me as the one who loves a good theme. Now, with that being said, first up is not a duck but she is a Crow, literally.  Crow is the brave leader of the team.  Without a doubt, she has managed to create this one of a kind, above the rest, group of “15 women and a Frank”!  We have 6 Teachers, 6 Paraprofessionals, 3 Speech Therapists, and 1 Occupational Therapist.  Crow is the coach, the team captain, and a player in the game!  Heads up ladies and a Frank… the camera is ready.  The next couple of posts will be highlighting the other members of the preschool flock!
What sets US apart?  I’ve had jobs…just ask anyone.  I have pretty much covered everything but the restaurant business.  Have you ever heard the saying a job is a job…well it’s not!  It’s the people make the difference.  We celebrate EVERY birthday (BIG), Christmas parties at my place, send each other text messages at CRAZY hours, tears, laughs, etc.  Here is the big one….WE ARE FAMILY!!! Each and every one of us has faced something along the way.  As for me, when I faced the hardest night of my life, it was this group that I called first!  Never even thought twice about it!  These women and a Frank dropped what they were doing and gave all of their courage when I didn’t have any of my own.  I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!!!
Can’t end on a sappy note, just not my style!  I totally just compared us to ducks.  HAHAHA!  I just QUACKED you up didn’t I?  Did I mention that we have an incredible bank of inside jokes J!

Room 141

Hi everyone!!!  I have been trying to start this blog for FOREVER!!!  Well ya'll it is finally here!  Now, what do I post first???  As a teacher I tried to think about where did I start from the minute I got the job?  The room, of course!  Anyone that knows me knows that I see EVERYTHING as a blank canvas that just needs "a little paint" and when I walked into room 141 for the first time, I saw the biggest blank canvas of all!  I have spent so much time trying to make this little cinder block room a home for not just me but my little hoots too!  It is ever changing and there is lots of rearranging...But hey I have to compete with Disney!
